signe's closet staples

Hello lovely Preppy Diaries readers!

I'm Signe, and I'm so excited to have the honor of guest posting for Chloe today! I think we can all agree her blog is hilarious and fabulous! You may know me from my previous blog, Significantly Styled, or my current blog, a Classy State of Grace.

Today I'd thought I'd share my most-worn items in my closet / closet staples. I thought this would be an interesting topic because it's different for everyone, although we all have that favorite pair of jeans or sweater we throw on again and again.

Number 1...

This bright red cable knit from J. Crew. I find myself putting it on so often because it's easy to create a simple yet cute outfit with. It's also warm and cozy and the bright red really stands out.

Number 2...

The Stara boot by Ralph Lauren. Riding boots are a classic closet staple. Depending on the color scheme of your wardrobe, you should either have brown or black. In my case, the black matches most of my outfits. These have lasted me a while now and are still in pretty good shape.

Number 3...

My leggings by Vera Wang. I usually wear leggings about once or twice a week. They're great for when I need my outfit to be simple and comfy but still cute. These are my favorite pair because they're soft.

Number 4...

My peter pan collared shirt from Francesca's Collections. This isn't the actual shirt that I have- mine is a button down and is a bit lighter- but it looks similar. I love this top because it's so versatile. It can be dressed up with a skirt or add an instant effect of chic to a cardigan and leggings. Something that I've also found I love about this top is that it can be layered under any other top. All you have to do is pull the collar over the neckline, and you can add a peter pan collar to any shirt! So cute!

Number 5...

The Dwyer flat from Coach. Like my riding boots, they match basically anything in my closet. They are also SO comfortable and great for walking in.

Number 6...

This tweed skirt from J. Crew. I found this on the sale rack about a year ago for a great price and fell in love! This is the most comfortable skirt I own because you don't have to be constantly pulling it down and it isn't tight. (That's the quality of J. Crew for you. :) ) It's incredibly easy to make a great outfit with this when I want to look cute but don't have a lot of time to create a masterpiece. I usually add my chambray shirt or navy sweater, some flats, a watch and a necklace and I'm good to go!

Thanks for reading my post and I hope you check out my blog sometime soon. :)

What are your favorite items in your closet?

COSTUME TIME

Halloween is literally right around the corner, and you know what that means!
COSTUME TIME!

I have pretty much always done the home made costume thing, but I usually decide what I want to be like three days before so I have to use what I have around the house. A few years ago though, I was a bumble bee and I bought the costume from target. Even though it wasn't a home-made costume it still was one of my favorites! It was huge and fuzzy and warm! I lived in Florida at the time and it was super cold that year, so I was glad I went with a very cosy costume choice!

This year though, I want to be something really cute and creative! Thank goodness for Pinterest, because there are loads of cute costume ideas that I would never have been able to think of! Here are a few my choices! All of these pictures are on my FALLidays Pinterest board and they all link back to the original source from there!

Audrey Hepburn is obviously one of my favorite ladies, and it would be so fun to dress up like her for halloween!

m&m's are a great way to go if you're feeling casual and need something warm! this costume could totally be worn solo, and it would also be fun in a group! if i was to do this costume then i would pick the blue one!

I can't even explain how much in love with this costume i am! my brother and i were avid Popeye and Olive Oyl watchers, so this one really hits home! I think the actual costume for Olive Oyl is super simple and cute! i guess all i need now is my Popeye;)
i'll set some spinach out..

i'm pretty sure i have been a candy cane girl before (in my costume out of the bag days). it's so cute and girly without being over the top! and you never have to worry about anyone asking you what you are!

all in all i think these are all beyond precious costume ideas, and right now i'm straying towards either being Olive Oyl or an m&m!

What do you think I should be?
What are you going to be?

Thanks for reading!

style icons

lately i have been looking at a lot of fashion magazines, and every time i see a cute outfit i want to try to  copy it! even though i don't have a budget like many of the actresses and tv stars do, there are a ton of cheaper alternatives out there you just have to keep your eyes open! polyvore is a great tool for any blogger, because it allows you to make "sets" which can be outfits or really anything! i really suggest that you go check it out if you need a free styling software (i'm making it sound a lot more professional than it probably is).
anyways here are three of my favorite fashion icons outfits that i love, and cheaper alternatives to their very fashionable outfits!!

1. selena gomez. yes she's a disney star, and yes i like her outfits. every since she stared on wizards of waverly place, i have been obsessed with her outfits. selena gomez always looks put together in an "alternative prep" way. if that makes sense at all. i guess it's just that she dresses her age, without going over board.

2. the olsen twins. i have loved the olsen twins since before i can remember. i was obsessed with full house and then when they were teenagers i watched every single one of their movies. and just recently i rented one from iTunes and fell in love with them again. they have such great style even though i won't wear what they wear, because it's out of my comfort zone. i do take some of their ideas and incorporate them into my own closet though!!

3. last but certainly not least, kate middleton. i mean do i even have to say why i like her fashion so much? she is the epitome of classic. she is just a bundle of perfect. she is to prep as macaroni is to cheese. if i could choose someone to be best friends with/share a closet with/share a home with/be part of someone's family it would be kate middleton no questions asked.
