friday ramblings

hey there

this is probably going to be the most random post you've ever read
just a warning

let me start by telling you about my manicure that i got yesterday.
you might know, i have been in colorado for about two weeks. in these past two weeks, my nails grew to a gross length. i'm talking i couldn't even type on my key board because they were so long.
it was terrible.
awful.
yesterday, i finally convinced my mom to take me to get my nails done.
i usually pick a "classic" color, like light pink or a new essie color. but, i decided to do something a little different.
let's call it "the new year bug"
i went red!

i literally can't remember the last time i painted my nails red.
wait, actually i take that back. i remember sitting on my back porch when i was in second grade trying to paint my nails red.
it was an utter disaster. i faintly remember the nail polish spilling everywhere, and having polish all over my nails.

but let me tell you, this was one of the best manicures i have ever had! the lady doing my nails was so precise and the polish looks great! not only was my lady great, but she massaged my hands twice. TWICE.
aaanddd she used a hot stone. you know, like the ones you see in magazines on peoples backs?
also, when my nails were drying a lady that worked in the salon asked me if she could give me a back massage.
usually i would've declined her offer because i used to be weird, but because it's the new year and all i let her give me a massage.
it was amazing.
the place i go to in kentucky doesn't even massage my hands..

let's see what else is new....

oh yeah, two days ago my brother and i decided that we didn't want to do anything all day except cook. we decided that we wanted to cook dinner for our daddio
so of course, the first thing we did was head over to pinterest and find some yummy looking dishes.
(i'm not going to lie i just forgot how to spell dishes)
we picked out a chicken parmesan recipe from Kraft, some asparagus, and some baked brie for an appetizer. all the dishes were beyond amazing. if you're planning on having or going to a party soon i totally recommend making baked brie with cranberry sauce and walnuts on top! it's super easy and super yummy.
i'm embarrassed to say this, but my family of four ate the entire circle of brie.

tonight my brother and i are making french onion soup and then for dessert we are going to johnny rockets for milk shakes! i can't wait.

booklists, ootds, and manicures. OH MY!

i guess you could say that my school is weird, because each student gets to pick their own three (or more) books to do summer reading on and then all you have to do is answer a few questions about the book (each answer has to be at least 200 words). unlike most schools, where you have a long list of long boring books to choose from. honestly, i'm glad i get to pick my own books. i've mentioned this before, but when i am told that i have to read a book i end up either not really focusing when i read it or just don't read it at all.
anyways, yesterday i went to the bookstore to pick up my books. i have been wanting to read the great gatsby for a while now so that was number one on my list. number two was fifth ave. 5am,  but unfortunately the bookstore didn't have it in stock. i'm definitely going to read it sometime this summer though because i've heard such great things about it, and i'm in love with anything audrey hepburn. next, i picked up divergent. honestly i have no idea what this book is about, but i've heard it was good and my mom wants to read it also. lastly i picked up the hate list.  i have never heard anything about this, but it's so good. i bought it yesterday and i'm already on page 175. granted i'm a fast reader, but right when i got home from the bookstore i started reading it and since then i have been unable to put it down! ugh i love good books, but i hate when they end! i'm pretty sure that's nerd status right there;)
i'll definitely be doing a mini book review of these three books, and maybe i'll just share the questions i answer for my school's summer reading requirement!

and since i've been a pretty horrible blogger this week, i'll leave y'all with some outfit of the day pictures, because i know how much i love seeing other people's!
don't y'all like the head tilt?!

i almost forgot to mention this, but i got my nails done at the salon last week! i usually go about once every two or three months, and i absolutely LOVE going!
except this time i got an evil lady. well kind of. while she was taking off my nail polish.
correction. glitter nail polish.
she took off a ton of skin on my middle finger, because she was rubbing so hard. i literally starting bleeding.
just my luck.
but it's ok, because my manicure turned out well!
unhurt hand
pink polish = knockout pout
greenish polish = absolutely shore

hurt hand/finger
see, i wasn't exaggerating!
i don't think..

what's your favorite summer nail polish color?
what's on your summer reading list?

thanks for reading!!

patriotic nails

are you lazy when it comes to fourth of july outfits? do you always stick to wearing a navy and white striped shirt with red shorts, or maybe you're super lazy creative and wear a red shirt with jean shorts. well have no fear, i'm here to save you and you can still wear your super easy outfit! all you need is red white and blue nail polish, and some finger nails! here are two super easy ways to steal the manicure runway at your 4th of july party!

1. choose 3 colors
2. use tape to make an x
3. paint colors on top and bottom of x
4. peel and seal with a  clear coat. Show off!
See how to extend a manicure post for detailed directions

1. pick 3 colors
2. paint nails a base color
3.pour 1 drop of polish on a paper plate.
4. use toothpicks or skewers to draw lines across your nail with your first color (red).
5. repeat steps 3 and 4 with the 2nd stripe color (blue).
Seal with a clear coat and VoilĂ . Stripey Nails!

these two manicure are super easy, and when anyone sees them they are sure to comment on how cute they are!

p.s. lilly pulitzer is on ruelala today at 11, but don't buy anything that you will be needing within the next month. rumor has it that they are having technical difficulties ;)
