lotsa lobsta

it seems lately that every where i turn i see lobsters. whether it be on a t-shirt or on a bracelet, they are every where. now don't get me wrong, i'm definitely not complaining. in fact, i'm kind of in love with this lobster trend. i think it is the epitome of preppy and reminds me of everything nantucket (although i've never been ha!). i think lobsters are just super cute, but it a touch punk kind of way. i might now be making any sense, but just hear me out. one of the main reasons i like them is because they are bright red, which makes them classy just like red nail polish. and another reason i like them is because they taste good, my mouth is literally watering while i type this...

now that we've come to the conclusion that i'm a little on the crazy side, here are a few of my latest lobster finds that i'm loving

 this lobster bracelet from j.crew is actually from the boy's section, but who cares, especially since it's only $10.50. a j.crew steal in my book. and it comes in two other colors, but like i said before red is classy.

toms are one of the most comfortable shoes around, and you're also helping people in need when you buy then which is pretty much the greatest combination. so when i found these to-die-for toms, i knew i had to show y'all!

i am obsessed with stationary lately, and these definitely fit in with my "buds". taste "buds" and "bud"get.

 that was a corny joke and i'm aware of it.

i only have one lobster thing in my closet right now, and it is a shirt from the j.crew factory store that i got over spring break. unfortunately i can't find it on the website, and i got it while on a road trip so i'm not sure if it's even still in stores but it is super cute even though the lobster is orange and not red;) 

and unfortunately, the shirt's in the dirty clothes right now so i'll have to add a picture in a little bit later, but be sure to check back!

patriotic nails

are you lazy when it comes to fourth of july outfits? do you always stick to wearing a navy and white striped shirt with red shorts, or maybe you're super lazy creative and wear a red shirt with jean shorts. well have no fear, i'm here to save you and you can still wear your super easy outfit! all you need is red white and blue nail polish, and some finger nails! here are two super easy ways to steal the manicure runway at your 4th of july party!

1. choose 3 colors

2. use tape to make an x

3. paint colors on top and bottom of x

4. peel and seal with a  clear coat. Show off!

1. pick 3 colors

2. paint nails a base color

3.pour 1 drop of polish on a paper plate.

4. use toothpicks or skewers to draw lines across your nail with your first color (red).

5. repeat steps 3 and 4 with the 2nd stripe color (blue).

Seal with a clear coat and Voilà. Stripey Nails!

these two manicure are super easy, and when anyone sees them they are sure to comment on how cute they are! 

p.s. lilly pulitzer is on ruelala today at 11, but don't buy anything that you will be needing within the next month. rumor has it that they are having technical difficulties ;)

beat the heat

can y'all believe this heat?! i can't walk out my door without instantly becoming drenched. it's awful. aw. full. i live in kentucky, not in the sahara desert. what is this nonsense. yesterday my car said that it was 111 degrees. one hundred eleven!! the only way to beat the heat is to 1. stay indoors and 2. eat ice cream every chance you get. i don't know about y'all but i can go through a pint of ice cream a night. it's bad, but oh so good. today i'm going to let you in on my ice cream secrets, aka my favorite flavors/types.

1. freeze pops.  need i say more?
2. ben & jerry's ice cream is pretty much my all-time favorite brand. they have no "plain" flavors, and all of them are just pure amazing-ness. i think my favorite flavors are half baked and phish food, but of course i would eat any flavor!
3. drumsticks. these are what everyone eats poolside, because they are literally sold at every snack bar in the world. i usually don't like peanuts on my ice-cream, but i can stand the ones on these. first you start with the peanuts, then you get the chocolate, then the vanilla ice-cream, and then you work your way down to the solid chocolate at the bottom of the cone. pure heaven.
4. anything from the ice cream truck is also a good treat. unfortunately, on my street the ice-cream truck is the kind you see in scary movies. you know the ones where they kidnap the kids? needless to say, i haven't had the ice-cream truck in a while.
5. choco tacos. these, like drumsticks, are pure heaven. i had these at camp a few years back and i fell in love with them! they are so good, and they combine my love of mexican food and ice cream perfectly;) i haven't been able to find these in grocery stores, but that's probably a good thing or else i'd weigh a bajillion pounds.

of course, there are healthier ways to beat the heat, but nothing is as tasty as ice cream. ice cream is my weakness, and if i had the choice to meet the president or go to the closest fro-yo place, i would probably ask if i could take the ice cream with me to meet the president. (and don't worry i'd bring him some too).  sometimes, my mom puts an end to my ice cream eatings for the day, and if that's the case i have to resort to eating ice. i might think that i was strange by just getting a cup of ice to eat, but yesterday i saw a billboard that advertised that they "had the crunchiest ice around town". so i'm less weird now. and i might be going to the gas station soon. advertising works people.
i know this was just a rambling, but it's too hot for me to be able to think properly. i guess that means it's time for some ice cream;)

how do you beat this heat? 

catalog inspiration

j.crew is one of my all-time favorite stores. not only do i love their individual pieces of clothing, but i absolutely LOVE how the mannequins are dressed in the stores and i love how the models are dressed in the catalogs. i might be weird, but this past year i have started saving every magazine that i have purchased. the reasoning behind this is because..

1. i know that when i'm older i'm going to want to look back on the old styles were popular, and what tips were being shared

2. i know i said before that i want to be a teacher, but i also really enjoy layout and design for magazines and advertisements. so saving these magazines will help me if i ever take a class/score a job at a magazine company! 

3. i wish that my mom saved her magazines so i could look back and see what she was inspired by/read when she was my age, so i'm saving them for my future kids! even though there might be boxes and boxes full of magazines, i could care less. 

moving on... 

yesterday i finished watching all my recorded tv shows from the night before, and was feeling very bored. since i was bored, i looked through all my j.crew magazines and decided to see how i could copy the catalog's looks with what i actually had in my closet. i actually got the idea to try this out, because i stumbled upon this blog, it's actually such a great blog you should check it out! . here are two looks i put together. 

this look is taken from the crew cuts section of the catalog. usually, i'm scared of putting purple and green/turquoise together, because i'm scared of looking like barney. i think this look works out well, despite the use of purple and turquoise! 

excuse the weird front tucking in of the shirt, it never seems to work out when i try to tuck in only part of my shirt! 

aslo, excuse my bad posture. i know my mom won't be happy with this picture;)

a huge trend in the j.crew catalog was pairing the same color top with the same color bottom.  i would have never thought that it would look good to do this, and i'm still not 100% sold on how my outfit looks. i'm not going to lie, i feel like this outfit is something shelley (anna fairs) would wear on the house bunny. but hey, sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zones.
